Happy families nurture neighbourly spirit on the Lyng

C50B5157[4]Young families are nurturing neighbourly spirit as they move into new homes on the regenerated Lyng estate in West Bromwich. The two couples, who are former neighbours from the estate, have moved into Lyng Community Association’s (LCA) most recently built homes – two-bedroom houses in Lyng Lane.

Kelly Lowe, her partner Craig Duncan and their six-month-old son James have moved into one house, while Natalia and Andrew and Sozanska have moved into the house next door with their one-year-old daughter Maya.

Both families moved at the same time from some of the new LCA apartments in Frank Fisher Way.

Kelly said: “We got to know each other when we were living in the flats, so it is great that they have moved in next door. We get on well, so we are really pleased – and it is nice that our children will be growing up together.

“Our house is lovely – it’s nice and modern with lots of space, and it’s really good to have a garden.

“The Lyng is a fantastic place to live. We’ve got the park right next to us, which is great for our little lad, plus we’ve got the new swimming baths opening soon and it’s so convenient for the doctors, shops and our family and friends.”

She added: “The regeneration of the estate has been a huge boost for the area – it’s brilliant to see the Lyng transformed like this.”

LCA now owns 190 homes on the Lyng for affordable rent, and another 10 are currently being built as part of the multi-million pound redevelopment of the estate.

Wendy Bodenham, Chair of LCA, said: “It is great to hear of our new residents already developing a real sense of neighbourly and community spirit on the Lyng.

“Reviving pride in the area and strengthening community ties are a large part of what this regeneration work is all about.”

LCA is working in partnership with Sandwell Council and house builder Barratt West Midlands to redevelop the 18-acre Lyng estate with an additional 114 homes for affordable rent and 250 for private sale, plus a new children’s playground and public open space.
